Lyrics:
CHORUS
Shoemaker shoemaker stitch by hand
You make the finest shoes in the land
Stitch and sow with utmost care
Shoemaker will you make me a pair
SPOKEN
There was once a poor, but very fine shoemaker
He worked and worked, but times were hard and
There came a day when he had only enough leather
To make just the one pair of shoes
He cut out the leather and went to bed
‘I’ll make the shoes in the morning,’ the shoemaker said
He got up early but was surprised to find
Two new shoes there before his very eyes
‘Wife, come quickly’, look what I’ve found
How could this have happened I heard no sound
These beautiful shoes I could not have sowed
Any better than this, a thankyou is owed’
He sold the shoes that very morning
And what’s more for double the price.
The customer was thrilled with his new shoes
So the shoemaker bought enough leather for 2 pairs of shoes.
And cut out the leather that same night
In the morning the shoemaker and his wife found 4 shoes on the bench.
This continued each night, the more leather he left,
the more finished shoes he found in the morning.
And so beautifully sowed that everyone wanted to buy a pair.
But the shoemaker and his wife wanted to know
who was making the shoes so they could thank them.
They decided to stay up and keep watch.
At midnight 2 tiny elves entered the shop,
sat on the work bench, and taking all the leather
the shoemaker had left, stitched and stitched
until all the leather had been sewn in to shoes.
And then they departed, as quietly as they’d arrived.
The shoemaker and his wife were astonished.
They’d noticed that the elves' feet were bare
so the shoemaker decided to make 4 tiny shoes
from the best and softest leather he could buy, and his wife,
2 pairs of breeches, 2 coats, 2 frilled shirts and 2 green caps
They worked all through the day and by evening they’d finished,
setting out the new clothes on the work bench, then hiding so they could keep watch.
At exactly midnight the elves crept into the shop, and shouted with delight when they saw the clothes.
They put them on and danced and sang, as happy as any 2 elves could possibly be.
The shoemaker and his wife never saw the elves again but they’d been lucky,
and the shoes the shoemaker made, continued to sell well.
They were never poor again and lived long and very happy lives.
