Before she sleeps put a pea on her bed
Then 20 mattresses, 20 feather pillows
The girl will lie on a bed so high

And if she’s a princess if she’s real
With her delicate skin she will feel
Under mattress and pillow, the pea in the bed
And try to sleep, but stay awake instead

A prince would then know that she’s a princess
He would be sure, no need to know more
Just one thing left to do as in fairy tales true
Marry her and live happily for ever more
